Hi Teddi.

Everyone- I am still looking for advice on growing in foot feathers. I have asked around and many people say that trimming feathers back to half or a third first, then waiting two weeks and plucking out the feathers is the best way to go. This promotes new growth and that old feathers will not grow back to their full length once they have been damaged. I have tried show feed and keeping them more isolated but no growth. Any advice from all you D'Uccle fans? Fair time is about 2 and a half months away so I want to get going on this. Thanks.

I know earlier in this thread someone else had the same problem and got advice- high protein, super deep dry pine shavings, and limit the free ranging to soft surfaces. With Cookie, whose foot feathers were a tattered mess, I had him in his own little rabbit hutch for 2 months before the show. I would wash his feet with baby shampoo and apply lotion once a week. Plus I fed him the mana pro poultry conditioner pellets. He did start growing some if his foot feathers back. I would let him out in the evenings to graze for a few minutes. But in general, my d'uccles with the best foot feathers don't get to do alot of scratching or running around.
Cookie now has a new home trying to protect a flock from the family chihuaha. I hope he does a good job. It's really hard to have to give up pets you love d/t trying to be realistic about your chicken numbers. I still miss him, even though he was naughty sometimes.

By the way, Nate and others, thanks for the votes!

Can someone tell me what color my new d'uccle is? I'm assuming it's mille fleur? But could it be a mixture??? I'm clueless and new to d'uccles. Thank you!!

Looks just like a bona fide millie I hatched yesterday!

Some are a little darker thatn others in down, but are nice little mille fleurs when they mature.

Awesome, thank you!!! I only got one out my hatch due to a screwup
