I am really glad you are loving them as much as I do! I have a few mean ones this year out of ones I've hatched, but then I haven't had time to spoil them like I usually do. The ones I've still got separate from the others are really sweet, and I'm culling my roos and hens too for personality this year.

I figure the personality is what I love best about the breed!

Here are what your babies look like now. I only have 4 out of the seven that hatch. Dang COONS. They are alittle over 14 weeks now. 3 boys, 1 Mille. 1 girl.

its not the greatest of pics, but only two are photogenic, can you guess? I have more pics of them.

Teddiliza here are two more shots of them I figured out that my flash was off so I got not so good shots but anyways here they are. Trying to get good shots of the girl, I don't know why, but mine aren't friendly. Still trying to figure out how too do that. Do you guys like hold them for hours at a time?

I have had a few mean ones that I've hatched this year, but of my sweet ones, they get plenty of lovin, usually at least 15 minutes of attention daily. I have also cut down to two actively breeding porcelain roos who both have better temperments. I think both of the males look very pretty, but I'm wondering why the mille boy doesn't have any black on his spangles. Hmm, it's almost like a thief stole them from his chest!
So what do you think of them.

He looks all humped up and cold. He looks like a sick bird...is he eating and drinking okay?

Oh yeah. She' doing very well. She eats like a pig (when the others aren't blocking her, but I also hand feed her three times a day as well) It was windy yesterday when I took the pictures, so she kept huddling.

Why does she look sick to you?

I've had many a sick birds in my time and most of them looked just like that when they're sick. That is why he looks sick to me.

Take Care

when the feathers look a little messy like they are in the pic, it usually means they aren't grooming themselves due to sickness or lots of stress. separate him from the flock and give him some TLC with some yogurt and vitamins in the water. special treats would do them wonders if they are willing to eat.

and btw, you may want to prepare yourself for some crowing. it looks like you have a sweet cockerel on your hands! the neck feathers look like they are getting pointy like a males would be.

I noticed that too about the Mille, he has a lot of white. He is a strange one he is obsessed with my meaties, follows them around and stays with them instead of the Duccles. I just started getting eggs from the girl didn't even know she was laying eggs. I have 6 right now didn't check if they were fertile just gave 4 to a broody hen and the other two are going in bator with some mollted Duccles. I was wondering, since I'm new to this breeding thing, how do we know when getting eggs if they are siblings? I have left the boys and the one girl along with one of my girls I hatched from Gabbard Farms, who shouldn't be laying yet. She is shy and doesn't hang around the other kids only by herself, even in the coop she separates herself from the others. Do you think it could be because a flighty broodie hatch her?

I have noticed that the chicks that my broodies have raised have been more skittish than the ones I've hatched myself.

I just have to say NatHowe, I can't believe you practically gave your extras away, but at the same time not alot of people are into d'uccles. Everyone wants the cochins and silkies, so I've been trying to promote them as much as I can by going to the spring and fall shows. I did have a guy that really liked the ones he got from me and wanted more hens, but I was afraid I'd lose some to the heat, so could only sell him 2 more. I really need to get a stronger sense of who to keep early on, but I'm still learning! I have some more pairs that I know I'll sell at the show this fall-- Good reason for my husband to encourage me to go..... I have two cockerels that look awesome, but they are nippy! Don't think I'll hang onto them though-- nippy is not a trait I encourage.
