D'uccle Thread

my D'uccle laid her first egg today!!!
It was obviously hers because it was SO TINY!!!

Thanks for all the advice on the winter stuff.... I do feel a lot better. Our garage is insulated and has a heater but I don't want to run the heater all winter! It's nice to know that they should do well in there. Great advice for when we build our run next year too!

don't worry about heating their space. it is actually a bad thing to do because if you ever lost the power on a very cold night it can shock and stress them into becoming sick! as long as you keep it draft free but well ventilated you shouldn't have any issues. chickens have their own insulation and should do fine as long as you grease their combs on cold nights.

It was funny they both laid their first eggs within a day of each other, the plymouth rock (bantam) was first and I was wondering who had laid it, then the next day the tiny egg appeared and I knew for sure it was the D'uccles!!!

I took photos, I scrambled the d'uccles egg and the entire thing wasn't even a mouthful!
