i like full beards at hatch and nice heavy leg feathering. along with nice coloring

If you have a bearded, chances are you will get bearded. That only makes sense. But if there are some background dominant genes for non-bearded, that might be what you have.

My $.02 on HH's birdie:

I think it's a boy, a late bloomer. That happens. I think his beard has been pecked out by a coop mate, or from sticking his head through chicken wire. Get him on some high protien chow or treats and figure out what's messing up his beard. Because I'm pretty sure I see skin where they should be feathers. Correct me if I'm wrong on the beard. But I'd bet $ (at least 2 cents lol) that I'm right about him being a gent. And I would certainly breed him back to mom just to see what colors you get. Both he & mom are probably pure d'Uccle, but mom or dad was a split rather than pure porcelain.

Middle toe looks pretty bare, but high protein feed might help some stubble become actual feathers and fill in. If someone's eating his beard then he could also have someone nibbling on his toes.

Also remember that porcelain is a diluted Black Mille Fluer and the dilution gene is Lavendar.
Lavendar and Blue can be hard to distinguish the difference.
But he could have blue in his genetic makeup as well.

The parents came from eggs I hatched that I purchased from a reputable breeder outside of Sacramento (Thistledown Farms). She has discontinued offering porcelain d'uccles for sale, however, and I am wondering if it is because the offspring came out as splits rather than pure? She's the kind of breeder that will not sell inferior birds, and if the d'uccles were coming out as splits, I could see her selling off what she has and not carrying them anymore.

I saw the parents of my parent birds before I purchased the eggs & they were just gorgeous! I hatched out Portia & Charlie back in February, I think. She had only been laying for about 2 weeks when Charlie died, and I only had her most recent 4 eggs available, so it doesn't surprise me that only one of them hatched.

I have been working and haven't had a chance to get out there and get pictures of Portia and get better pictures of the chick.
