D'uccle Thread

no its not a recognized color but i have heard of ppl working on this color just cause its not recognized dose not mean its not a d uccle
not trying to be rude inany way

I feel terrible. My great dane was out(he has killed 1 chicken once but was starting to get better), I was taking pictures of my chickens when they all started to go up for the night. I grabbed my d'Uccle rooster and took him outside to get one more picture of him(for my website). I tried to get a picture but he was running away from me and trying to get back inside. Right when I was about to give up and put him back inside, he flies up (trying to get through the chicken wire) and my dog comes up and grabs him and runs off. I was yelling my head off at my dog, I was so upset and mad. He was a pet not just a chicken. I feel absolutely terrible about it and I'm really angry at the dog(who I will be getting rid of, I can't risk getting anymore chickens killed).

I am so sorry for your loss Lady Chickadee.

I have a dog that has killed chickens too. Thankfully, mine will not do it if I am there. He is 6 and knows he is not supposed to touch them. He will leave them alone in the pens too, but if one gets into his area when I am not there, all bets are off.

If your dog will grab one right in front of you, I'm afraid re-homing is your only option. If he is purebred, there are quite a few Great Dane rescues out there. He should be able to find a good home with no chickens. I wish you the best of luck.

. He is purebred and its gonna be kinda hard to get rid of him since he was a family pet but we've tried everything I can think of and nothing has worked. It will probably be worth it in the end though, so that we have no more painful chicken losses.

i feel ur pain i had a husky that i loved but she to kept eating the chickens in the end we get rid of here i still miss here but things have been much easier without her

I am sorry for your loss! It will be hard giving him up but it would be even more painful to lose more of your pets because of him! I have trained my dog since she was a puppy that chickens are friends, although if one gets out and I am not home all bets would be off! Being a purebred Aussie the herding instinct is always there and she will protect her chickens from any other animals and humans she does not know. but I do fear one day she might try to heard one if it gets out and accidently kill it! I lost one of my beloved special needs chickens to a Stray cat, it was devistating. I really do feel your pain and pray your beloved Roo is flying with the best of them! :)
