d'uccles- which rooster to keep for breeding

Spend what time you can with them. I'm juggling two jobs at the moment so I know what you mean. When I do have time I'll go out and sit and watch them.

I'm curious to see what our chicks are going to turn out like. Our roo has a very dark beak compared to the hen. Would darker beaks on the chicks mean those are the boys or not necessarily?

Not.............
You will be able to tell the sex pretty early on by looking at the comb.............
and after you've been around for a while, you'll start to get a "feel" about their attitudes. The boys just act like little boys. Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part, the cockerels carry themselves with attitude. Sometimes you'll even see them square off with other boys and play at "cock fighting." They look so silly, they act really "~BAD~" then turn around and groom each others faces. It's just too funny.

so i have 2 mille fleur d'uccle roosters and im trying to decide which to keep for breeding, the first is a cockeral i hatched this spring (6 months old), i know he has to many points on his comb, but he has a decent beard/muff whereas my other rooster a has very weak beard/muff but he has a nicer comb, which would be better for breeding (i want to improve my stock)?

Number one has a more proper body type, a muff and beard, NO wattles, a nice shorter neck, looks like shorter legs. Which is what you want.

2nd one, the legs are too long, neck is too long, has Wattles among other things.... his conformation is more like a Booted Bantam.

If anyone is confused about breed standard, check out the d'Uccle club websites in both the USA and Australia.
