desertdarlene,

i read your thread about the local ducks and geese you watch.
that is all i have right now too.
a small marshy pond with some mallard mixes, (which I learned from this site)
an occasional snowy egret and a great blue heron stops by rarely.
I live in an apartment too.
Ah, but soon, I will have my waterfowl!

Cool! I wish I could have one in my apartment, but I wouldn't be able to get away with it unless it was a rescue. And, even then, it would be only for a few days at the most until I can get it to rehab. Houses here are expensive and very few people can really afford them here.

This one lake I go to has tons upon tons of wildlife. The predator-prey balance is very good, except that there are probably more ducks and squirrels there than there would be if people didn't feed them. Unfortunately, though, it means a lot of ducklings/duck eggs don't make it. But, that's nature.

The other lake has more domestic ducks and geese that are handled more often, so they're closer to being pets than at the other lake.

I'll have to take some pictures to add, but I need to join duck-a-holics anonymous myself.

I admit to having nine muscovy and four cayuga! It was this darn BYC....fed my addiction....showed me all these wonderful birds.

My name is PippyChicken and I have no ducks
