and I agree your ducks look very content. How old are they? My Pekin started bobbing her head in the first couple weeks but the others didn't start doing that until more recently. They seem to do it most when they want me to pick them up. Can't resist it
Aww dude! I wouldn’t be able to resist if my ducks wanted to be picked up either! Mine are 7 weeks old.I had never read that before or heard of it but now it makes more sense why my ducks always try to bury their bills into my clothes or between where my arm rests against my side! So cool
My ducks are silly - they run away from me all day, and Lord willing I catch one and put it on my lap, it won’t run or try to escape. It’ll use its little duckie bill and burrow through the hole produced by placing the tips of my thumb and forefinger together. Once I place it back on the ground, it’s back to running away until I produce the goods; peas, grapes, and tomato. When they were younger, I was able to put both of them on my lap at the same time which was preferable for them since they disliked being separated. Now at 7 weeks old, it’s one at a time.Aw, they're lovely!
Mine only "ask" to be picked up first thing in the morning and last thing before bed. I put my hand out and they'll do like a half-sit on my hand, so then I pick them up and they sit in my lap. But I can only really hold one at a time since they're getting so big, so I pick one up and the rest all bob their heads at me and quack/peep at me until I give them a turn. But that's just first thing and last thing. The rest of they day, they're free ranging in my yard, and while they always want to know where I am they don't usually want me to be handling them. Too many bugs and clover in my yard I guess
Is that a peach tree in your yard?
I’ve only played once for them. They seemed picky. I did notice if I play one song they would rush over to listen. But only the one song. I’ve read voice imprinting is stronger than visual imprinting, so maybe the singing is related to that..?
