Duck Breed Focus - Indian Runner

Just peeps doin' peep stuff! There's a Playlist of all of their videos here if anyone wants to watch their progression so far.

A+ #1 most important thing in life: baby duck wingaling nubbins! ♡♡♡

Zuko thought about going out to forage with everyone else, but then he decided that sprouty lentils and baby kale leaves were more important. It was a tough choice to make, but ultimately, he just had to stay true to himself and follow his heart.
Love these videos...and Zuko knows he has to keep up his strength to be able to keep up with those Runners.

My chocolate runner has been looking rough lately. I think she's molting. I hope she starts laying again soon. She lays the prettiest green eggs.

My suspected runner mix is looking soooo pretty. Just waiting on speculum and flight feathers to come in, and a little down to shed on her neck, and she'll be fully feathered! Do you think her color could come from a mallard father and fawn and white runner mother? That's my best guess :/

Im almost positive my little gray duckling, Dickie, is from my fawn and white runner. He stands straight up like a runner. He either has a mallard or welsh harlequin for a father, not sure which. I have no idea what his sister Snowflake is, lol. I've never seen her color before. Her father is either mallard or welsh harlequin (those are my only drakes), but her mother could be welsh harlequin, cayuga, buff, pekin or fawn and white runner. I seriously have no clue! Lol

Whatever they are they sure are cute!!!

Also, about the water, some people wait till the oil comes in but plenty of people do it at just a few days old. The only thing is though is to not give them swimming water continuously, just do it for brief periods at a time and also make sure they're completely dry after because I don't think they have they're waterproofing oil yet so they'll get cold

At what age do you introduce them to swimming?

With my first set, I started doing supervised splashy time at about two weeks old (I got them at 8 days, got a splashing pool set up a couple days later), but that was in July. I worry a bit about these ones getting chilly, so they probably won't get as much pool time, and when they do, it'll probably be inside in the bathtub.

I just love it when they flap those tiny winglets.. Love the videos you have me dreaming of Runner ducklings.. If you can keep your bath room warm I'd have them in the tub of warm water. Just pat dry after and right back under heat lamp. and be sure to video the whole thing..

Excellent ideas Miss Lydia...

You should have some Runners. And AimToMisbehave needs to film their first swimming expedition! Pass the popcorn please
