Hi,

I am new on this forum and this is my first post so firstly, hi! :frow

Secondly, I was wondering if someone much more experienced and knowledgeable than myself would mind please telling me what colour my new ducks are? They were sold to me as Call ducks although they don’t seem to have the cute little round heads I have seen in Call ducks previously, I did see the parents and they were small which is what I was predominantly looking for so not too fussed if they’re purebred. Apparently 8 weeks old and we think a boy and a girl.
Doesn’t make much of a difference what colour they are, I love them anyway, just out of curiosity?

:welcome :frow

I’m guessing both Pastel. And they are in the dinosaur stage, but will grow into their bills, and they won’t look so goofy. :D

Beautiful babies. I hope you’ll stick around and show us how they feather out.
FYI, here are color charts. Do you remember what color the parents were?

Porcelain has one more blue dilution than Pastel, but being so similar ducks normally get labelled as the latter. There's a bit less of the tan color on the girls and drakes tend not to have as large of a bib. To me, the head and body are a bit long looking for Calls. But it's definitely more probable that they're Calls. Lately I've had people that were impossible to convince of the fact that Aztecs are a different breed argue with me. It makes me wonder if some made it out of the VT flock labelled as Calls before their re-discovery.
Do you raise Aztecs as well?

There's only ever two blue dilutions, you can't get more than that onto one bird :) Blue fawn is one dilution, pastel is two. Porcelain is also two.

I do! Mine came from the person who took the remainder of the flock from the woman who had them in VT. We are working on them now, trying to add some genetics by crossing back to Calls and mallards (the two breeds which were originally crossed to create them) and hoping to bring back the Blue Pearl color, which has been lost since the woman with the remaining flock liked Porcelain better so she selected for it over Blue Pearl.
