Hi! I purchased a cape cod coop from the same feed store I purchased my Pekin from. Another feed store told me because it is 2 story that “top heavy” birds have trouble with the stairs and often get injured. I am ready to move her into the coop but am now worried. I have attached a picture of the model I have. Will this work? I just have one female Pekin. Thank you

The angle of the ramp looks a little steep for a pekin. Maybe you could alter it a bit? Put a concrete step out front under it to lift it up and then the duck can step up, plus it would change the angle of the ramp.

Will your duck be in here all of the time or just at night?
Also, why only one duck? Ducks are social animals and like to be around at least one of their own kind. They tend to get lonely when they are a single duck.

I do let her free range while I am home and supervising, but she will be in there often. I was told one duck would be fine

I don't know where you got the info about keeping only one duck, but it is not ideal. Here is the link from the duck sticky regarding keeping only 1 duck.

How are you going to have the feed and water set up in there?
Also, ducks require 4 sq feet of coop/house space and 10 sq feet of run room per duck. I am not sure either of those requirements are being met with this set up. Can you at least add to the run area - like a run extension?

That’s why I joined this site, I am new to this and learning as I go. I am considering a different coop. It is around 4 feet in length but I do want to add a run

That’s awful. She is handled frequently and very socialized with humans. I never considered getting 2 before.
Humans are not ducks though. Ducks are to be a part of a flock. A flock can be two or more, but never 1. I am sure whomever had the goat also spent time with it as well. A person can never replace another duck for companionship.

I got almost the exact same one, and my ducks NEVER went into it. I sawed part of it off and now it’s low to the ground and they go in there when I make them. It might be an ok space for chickens as I’m not familiar with them. But even 1 duck, it will be a muddy mess soon. And the part of the pen, is a pain in the you know what if they lay their eggs there. Or when you need to clean it out. I’m pretty small, but I have to crawl in the poop to get far enough in to get all the straw out. Yuck. I giggle now when I think about how I ordered this. It looks sooooo cute, but definitely not functional for ducks. That’s just my two cents. And you may find it works for you!
