Duck Egg Candling Photo Diary

Pics
Was great reading this Thank you! I have 8 Rouen eggs in right now and candled 2 days ago (day 5) and I thought I only had 1/8 developing but I candled again today and it appears as if 6/8 are developing, but not sure. I'm new to this it's my first hatch so I want to be careful! If they are all clear at 10 days should I go ahead and toss them or wait until day 14? Any help is appreciated!

Hi! I have eggs in my incubator now. I just put chicken eggs and ducks eggs in yesterday. But I've had Ancona eggs in there for at least a week. I'm not sure what I'm seeing! I tried candling the Ancona eggs tonight. One I could pretty much see through and the others I saw darker areas that cover about half of the inside of the shell. I think I see a few veins. I'm not sure! Any help would be much appreciated!!

GREAT post! I've been wondering if the duck eggs a friend gave me were fertile. I just checked and they are looking just like these! I am so excited!

Brilliant thread thank you, Just candled my duck eggs on day 5 and look as if all are fertile, I am so excited, cant wait to meet my new babies, have hatched chicken but this is my first attempt at ducks.

Hi i am new to hatching duck eggs so when i candle them it us Hard to tell what I am looking at. These two pictures are each different duck eggs that I have candled. This is day five of incubation and all over the Internet it says that I should be seeing veins. Can someone please inform me on whether or not this is good progress in Development of the eggs.. The second egg is much smaller than the other eggs that i have seen so i am worried it might have problems Developing

I've only hatched duck eggs once, so I'm no expert. The first egg looks more developed than the second. It's still early, so I'd give it a few more days. Check out Metzer's page for comparison.

They aren't looking very good. I hope someone else can offer an opinion. By day 10, there are distinct veins, that are easy to see, especially in white duck eggs. However, I've been known to incubate infertile eggs as much as 18 days before giving up. IMO they look like duds and I can't speculate what that spot is. Wonder what others think?
