Duck Egg Candling Photo Diary

Pics
I was here not to long ago with pictures of my eggs and i needed peoples opinions bc this is my first hatching pekin eggs the first row are the pictures of the eggs i put up on day 5 amd the bottom row is day 9.
Still no sign of veins.. Also on the bottom of the bigger egg i spotted this.. I have no clue what it is but it does not look too good sorry to be a bother

Oh, dear...that red ring means that the embryo began to grow, then died. :( By day 9 you should be seeing much more development. Can you tell me what your temperature and humidity levels are in the incubator? What type of incubator are you using?

I'll agree with Mommissan that you should wait until the next benchmark, which is 14 days. If they still aren't developing by then or if they start to smell rotten you'll know that they're gone. I'm sorry.

Hi! When(on which day) does lock down for a mallard egg begin? My duckling is supposed to hatch in a week.

Also my duck laid 31 eggs...so far...Almost all of them had good veining but in the middle where you see the heart, mine doesn't have a heart ?!

In it's place it looks like a mini air cell? All died.

I only have the one left, he had a beating heart. It's my duck's first time laying eggs. Did I do something wrong? Thanks...

I hope someone has a reason for this. My friend let his pekin sit on almost 20 eggs, and NONE hatched. It's been more than 35 days....

I have no idea...but that's positively heartbreaking. I'm so, so sorry, both of you.

Hey Mommissan, in the case of your friend, was that her first clutch, too? I wonder if that has anything to do with it. That "mini air cell" thing sounds just plain weird. The heart is the first thing you see develop in baby chickies! Are both the momma and the daddy the same duck breed?

thank you that was very helpful i am just starting on the incubating of my pekin ducks and i was looking for a timeline to go by to know that they are winners hopefully i have no quiters

Thank you for sharing this, I was slightly worried when I checked our duck's clutch tonight and there was no veining. This was a huge help! Looking at all the chicken ones had me worried that her clutch was all duds. But after seeing this I know there's still a day or two until we should see veining. Again, thank you!

ETA: Our little lady is on day 8, and we have 2 eggs developing wonderfully. The remainder of her clutch are duds, but my son and I are beyond happy to have any developing.

Im on day 10 of incubating my first eggs and I've candled them a couple times and in 4 i can see veins and in 5 i see absolutely nothing and in one i think theres a blood ring. I was turning my eggs this morning and i was being gentle and the shell cracked not enough to break the membrane but a good size dent. I want to know if i should keep the eggs that aren't developing or just get rid of them
