let me start this off by saying this- i’m a reptile guy, i don’t know anything about birds.
i live in the chicago area. a duck just laid 8 eggs in a nest right in my backyard. the weather has been really nice lately. but a couple days ago, it snowed. it is currently 42° F outside, but yesterday it dipped right below the freezing point. mama duck has left her eggs unattended for a few hours now, and i’m really concerned for the ducklings’ safety. mama’s been hanging around my backyard for about a half hour, watching the house.
i’ve got a spare heat lamp in case i need to bring them in, but i’m not sure what to do. should i take them in or should i let nature take its course?
