Duck eye infection? Remedies?

Woke up this morning and my duck's entire eye was swollen shut.


I immediately separated him and cleaned his eye with some warm water. He seems pretty lethargic and his friends don't want to be around him.

I gave him some water mixed with Vetrx for precautionary measures in case it's something linked to a respiratory infection. I've read that saline solution should be used to clean the area, but beyond that I'm lost at what exactly is duck safe for his eyes.

I'm thinking about bringing him inside for tonight so he has a super clean place to get better. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not sure what you can put on eye for infection.

Sometimes they get pecked in the eye, or get debris inside the eye which can cause some irritation. A respiratory disease would be unlikely.

For the eye, flush it well with some saline, wipe off any gunk, and apply either an antibacterial ointment like Neosporin or Terramycin a few times a day using a cotton swab.
