Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

Sadly, the last 5 bantams died in the shell without ever pipping.  I hadn't seen any movement or heard any sounds from them, so I candled them tonight and there was no movement at all.  Just to be sure I very carefully pipped them.  4 of them were fully formed but the air cells were super small, so I think they maybe couldn't move enough to pip and get out.  The 5th one looked like it quit several days ago.  So I think maybe I kept too much humidity during the incubation and the air cells didn't shrink enough.  I've been reading about the dry incubation, and after this m more inclined to try it.  I hope my duck eggs still have plenty of time to lose enough moisture for proper air cell size.

So sorry!! It sucks to lose little ones. What type of duck eggs are they? I run my humidity at 50% for my ducks and its done well.

They are the 3 anconas I bought on eBay. I've had the humidity at around 45-50% throughout until the last couple of days for hatching, when I bumped it up to between 60-70%. Maybe the 45-50% range is too much for the bitty bantam eggs to lose enough moisture, or maybe it was some other factor. I just don't know.

One of them did have a slightly malformed beak, but the others looked fully formed, normal and ready for hatching. The yolks were even all absorbed.

On a brighter note, the eight babies seem to be doing well. All are curious and can walk around, though still a bit wobbly. And they started sampling food and water today. The first one is the bravest of them and is very adventurous and just too darned cute.

I was worried about the power outrages affecting my ten duck eggs.. Day 13 and all appear to be going strong =) I should of been more concerned about my chicken eggs, had lockdown start on day 18 (my bantams usually hatch this day) this is day 21 for three standards and seven bantams =/ I was getting worried so I broke lockdown to candle every egg real quick.. Three days of fluctuating temps did one in, but in all but one bantam egg I can see life/visible movement =) and the three standards have internally pipped, sealed the bator back up and now to play the waiting game.. Hope the two d'uccle eggs/chicks hatch strong I really would like to enlarge my flock, and they are from one of my favorite roosters (Stanley) not that anyone tries to get fertile eggs from their least fav =)

That's great news! Will keep my fingers crossed that you get a good hatch.

Your ducks should be fine. My humidity goes all over the place, at one point it was at 80% for the bob whites.

Were they shipped eggs? I always get quitters in shipped eggs. There's still ten eggs in my bator from them, I opened 2 and they were fully formed quitters so I bet the rest are too ( same thing happened to my coturnix). It's the worst part about hatching :/

On a brighter note here's some of my bobs and an update on the duckies.

No they were just some of my own, though some of them were refrigerated... They were mainly put in as a test run for my incubator, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I'm now really wishing I had thought to mark the fridge eggs so I could know if they were ones that hatched or not.

Lesson learned - always mark eggs for anything that may be even remotely relevant.

Those little quail are so tiny and cute, but I really love, love, LOVE those duckies.

I don't know why but I just find duckies SO dang cute. Even all grown up they are just adorable. I got 2 khaki campbell ducklings for my daughter early this spring, and even full grown they make me giggle all the time at how cute they are. Especially when they do the little head tilt to look up at you.

Is that bright yellow one the buff/white one?
