Just an update babies are doing great getting so so big already!! They don't both fit in my hand anymore one in each hand the one is still smaller then the other but they r doing great!!
Oh my! They are very big now! I will post pictures of mine tomorrow! I just got back into town and I feel like they doubled in size while I was gone! I was so sad coming home to only 3. I'm glad my neighbor was nice enough to bury her while I was away.

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that! I was really looking forward to seeing them . It's so hard to loose babies. I lost the Pekin. She was the yellow duckling that is in my avatar picture. She was the sweetest of the bunch but was definitely the slowest and weakest. She was noticeably weaker than the others since hatch day. =(

I think ducks would be a lot harder to do as well. I'll start with quail and move up from there. I would love to try duck though. Do different breeds have different tastes? Does taste differ from wild to domestic? I'm curious to know more now.
I have read that each breed does have different taste to them. One of the multiple reasons I chose Anconas is because they are said to have some of the best tasting meat there is, and are less fatty than Pekins. Anything wild is going to taste significantly different than it's domestic counterpart. So yes, wild duck will have that strong "gamey" flavor that you will not get in a domestically raised duck. How they live and what they eat can have a big impact on the flavor of their meat as well.

That's very interesting! Thank you =)

I will pray for a very successful hatch this time around. =)

How's everyone's ducklings/eggs doing???

Have some call eggs due to hatch this Thursday. I almost had a panic attack the other day. On day 19 two of them had pipped!!! I was freaking out!!! Woke up on day 20 to two hatched out bantam Cochins. Apparently they snuck their eggs into my friends call duck nest! Ha! They are super cute!

Mine are doing great! They now live with my neighbor down the road in a huge chicken run. They are happy healthy ducks! I just started 30 silkie eggs and I have 40 quail going in tomorrow.

Awe!! Yes it was a surprise, ha. I don't have any chickens so its kinda neat to have them. I'm half hoping they will be hens so I can keep them but I know that's unlikely.

Oh that is great! Chickens and quail are much easier, plus it's more likely you'll see them hatch because they do it so quick and all together. Higher hatch rates too. I will probably get some more bob white eggs in another month or so. Mix up my bloodlines.
