Duck Hatch-A-Long ~ Wanna Join?

Yep...mine came off this morning, but I'll watch and see if she is just thinking about it. I won't put good eggs under her until she actually sticks for 3 or 4 days. Collect her eggs for a few days, then give her eggs you don't care about and see if she starts sitting.
I see you are in Ireland? I'm 90% Irish, myself. My lineage has been traced back to Antrim County.....

Checked call duck eggs tonight and nothing but then realized, oops only day 4, still a possible chance. Do any of you know if my 2-3 year old drake is infertile would he keep the 1 year old drake from mating? We were pretty sure the older male wasn't working well last year so I added a drake from last year but was wondering if drakes "dominate" and prevent younger ones from mating? I'd always thought they'd all breed whenever they can. What ya think?

I checked my runner duck eggs a little early too. It is hard to be patient. I really didn't see anything.... will look again on Monday. My drake is with four females, but only two seem to be laying eggs. He is about two or three years old. He is the only drake I have, so I hope that they are fertilized.

Hello, i'm new, but I am currently a new mom of 19 baby blue indian runner ducks. The first one had hatched on march 23. All the eggs that i had gathered from the adults so far have all hatched, i still have about 6 more eggs to go. But i did get 2 yellow babies while the others are either a black or light grey, i wouldnt go as far as to say their albino, but maybe a pibald? One is shown in the picture. The other dosent have the darkness around its eye. What do you guys think??? Any feedback would be awesome! Also the parents are deffinately both blue runners.

It's only day 5 for mine and I'm seeing really good veining in over half of them. I was suprised to see anything, and all I did was run the candler across the tops of them. My pastels haven't been fertile yet, but some of these are fertile! I finally have fertility!
I have 2 hens and 1 drake in a pen. I see him court and mate one of the hens, but not the other. Her eggs have not been fertile for sure. There is no interest from either the drake or the hen. It could be both of your drakes are mating, or just one. I'd imagine if they aren't fighting, all is good?

I use the 2:1 ratio. At his age, he may not be able to cover that many hens.

You are dealing with the B/B/S gene, (blue, black, splash) In the blues you are going to get a percentage of blacks, blues and splash....not all blue. It sounds like you have a black, blue and splash in your batch. Metzer Waterfowl calls the splash "silver" in the Runners, I noticed.....I love the B/B/S Runners, and was thinking of getting some eggs.

ETA: very cute baby, by the way....

Awesome! Thank you! I didnt know anything of or about that b/b/s gene. But I did just have another one hatch that color. I love the blonde look but i need homes for some of these babies, this is number 20.
The one in my picture is the oldest and so far the tallest, and blackest, and it follows me around, im hoping it turns out to be abled to show. If not, theres well, 19 others

The shades of blue can vary, too. In Orpingtons, I had light colored blues, as well as dark. In the chickens, the splash are kind of silver? With splashes of blues. In the Runners I think the splashes are just silver colored. I think that's what I read and saw on the Metzer site. Not sure. The Runners are fun...I have a black drake that thinks he's a goose and hangs with the sebbies. He needs buddies of his own kind, if I can convince him he's truly a duck....hope that knowledge doesn't burst his bubble, LOL

Now see....I'm really wanting blue Runners, now that I've thought about it more...but I'm not sure where to stick them in my hatching schedule

Haha . well i know with mine we have the canadian geese that come in and lay nests at our pond and they have deff. got a attitude adjustment by the male today. They kept bothering the mallards and the goose stepped in xD None of them where hurt just scared xD

Well, you can always just do like 2 or 4 and just squeeze them in. Im a little overwhelmed with how many actually hatched but im attached

And the thing is that the females are still laying eggs, id say i have about 15 or so eggs that i decided not to incubate just incase the others did make it. They are laying so much o.o
