Duck on duck crime

Today my husband told me that my two male Indian runner ducks tried to kill my male Pekin duck. They were on top of him trying to “eat his head”. I went and saw him and he’s pretty beat up. His eyes look swollen, his head is bloody and missing feathers and there’s blood around the top of his beak. He’s also limping. There’s several spots in the yard with blood in the snow. This is extremely odd behavior for them. They always get along very well. I got them all at the same time as babies last March. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen?

Well, one issue is that they’re all boys... maybe rehome 2, or all 3 and get some females. As for what to do about your pekin, I’m not sure, maybe the experts will chime in in a minute

Earl, the pekin, is in isolation right now and will be there until he heals. At this time, I think he will be okay. I don't want to get rid of any of them and I plan on getting females this Spring.

@thumper650 has all drakes. Hormones is the culprit. Boy they get the best of those boys. Keeping Earl in isolation is a good idea but make sure they can all still see each other.

Little fences. Everywhere in the spring here! You might have to seperate the runners too because they'll probably start picking at each other, but I'd wait and see. I have added 2 runners to my 2 exsisting pekins, so this will be the first spring together. Should be a mess, but I love little fences!

My 2 baby boys were born and grew up together. Did everything together and then suddenly, one day, one started attacking the other so bad I had to rehome him!

The thing with Birds is it's not days for changes,it's hours so hormones run high in males.

Crazy. I just figured if it was going to happen it would have a few months ago.
