I got 2 Pekin and 2 (possibly) Rouen ducklings, about 2 weeks old now so I really need to get building on a duck coop soon.
We did get lots of free pallets from his work for free (free is always good, isn't it?!) so I got wood although no real sheets of plywood but that should still do. We pretty much don't have much (if any) of a budget to work with, so simple, easy, quick and frugal is definitely the key.

Now my questions are:
How big should the pop hole be (size wise) and any nice, practical and simple ideas for a ducky coop, maybe even some pics?
And should I put nesting boxes in there too?

These are my first ducklings so I don't really know any better yet and hope everything I'm doing so far is right

, with lots of help from some good threads I found on here. Just haven't found a lot of info on duck coops/houses, but there should definitely be some out there with all the duck lovers I see on here!

Oh, and yes, I would LOVE to get in contact with some other NW Wisconsin duck/chicken/pheasant owners on here! For input, exchange and simply to find some like minded folks in the midst of cool nowhere!
Really looking forward to ideas, plans and new folks around with the same things on mind!

heres our duck house.... its not totally finished, but it was simple and does the job haha.... the roof opens to be able to clean or grab eggs ect, the side has a door so we can reach through the fence and get eggs ect, inside it has one divider making two large sections for them to build nest... its 8×4 which should be the proper ratio for our ducks

My husband and I have made a couple of duck houses completely for free using scrap wood found on freecycle, from friends, etc. with the exception of buying the hardware for the doors. Here is a pic of our current duck house in progress- we got free pallets, scrap pieces of plastic sheeting and salvaged chicken wire after reducing the size of our chicken run. We put chicken wire along all the sides for now, but plan on attaching some plywood to the outside and possibly the inside too, and putting insulation between the layers. We used the hard plastic sheet as a base and screwed the pallets into the plastic. we covered the floor in shavings. It might not be pretty, but it was free and my ducks are safe, and that's all that matters! I will probably end up adding some windows once the solid walls are up, and we are going to shingle the peaked roof(which essentially holds no purpose, my husband just felt like doing it!). The ducks stay in the house at night, and are in a fenced area during the day where they have access to their food, water and kiddie pool.

Thanks but that one would not work for our pretty breezy and cold Wisconsin winters. Trying to get ideas for something I can insulate cause I'd like them to stay warm and cozy when we're hiding inside too. Lol

We live in VT so I totally get weatherproofing! And like I said, we are planning on adding plywood and insulation before it gets cold out.
