I just have a largeish dog pool it’s about 4’ diameter and 2’ feet deep

Just make sure it has a good drain in the bottom!

Trash pumps are another good option for pools and ponds. Makes sense for redistribution of the water to the garden and they can also be used for the waterfall/filter system.

I just put a pond in last week. Simple upflow bio filter and a skimmer. sludge pump in deeper end. 6 ft x 9 ft x 24" Deep.

The upflow filter is larger though given the bio load I expect (as seen by the mountain it's built from). If the nutrients stabilize, I want to put tilapia in it and see what happens. But obviously that's' months away while the good bacteria establish themselves.
