Duck ripped out nail?

Hi all! I believe one of my girls ripped out/broke a nail yesterday, I have a pic but it isn’t the best

I found quite a bit of blood in the duck run this morning then found the culprit with a bloody toe and what appears to be a missing nail. I brought her inside and soaked her feet in a warm epsom salt bath for around 15 minutes to clean it out.

I plan to treat with wound spray and Neosporin, then try to wrap it (I’ve never had to wrap a ducks wound before so advice is much appreciated, my bandaging skills only apply to horses )

It’s very cold and wet here right now, which I imagine isn’t good for it, hence the plan to wrap it. I can’t really keep her inside the house because her bonded companion would go crazy and I’m not home for most of the day, so I won’t really be able to tend to them and give water (I can’t just set a container down because they make a huge mess and I don’t have a good waterproofed area indoors)

Is there anything else I should be doing for her and/or watching out for? She seems to be eating/drinking/moving fine. Is there a good tutorial on how to properly wrap their feet/legs?

Oh poor baby, but she will be fine. I have a couple of ducks who are missing nails for years. You’re doing all the right things just make sure the Neosporin does not have pain relief added. When you wrap a duck’s foot, you’re supposed to leave that little dew claw sticking out so I guess you could like first fold a Band-Aid in half over it and then do the wrap. I will try to help you find a little tutorial one thing I learned is that after you use the Vet wrap add one strip of waterproof medical tape around the foot at the end of the Vet wrap to keep her from being able to bite it all off.

One of my ducks ripped out that same nail on both feet. A couple days of dabbing with Neosporin and she was all better. The nails are back now

Thank you so much! We attempted to wrap it and use waterproof tape, but her companion kept biting at the tape and getting it off for her

They’re both inside for the night, but they’ll need to go back out tomorrow because I have classes I need to be in, so I can’t attend to them.

Do you think it’ll be okay for her to go out without it wrapped?
