They do the same here. Many more would survive if they started them on something other than shavings and waited until they were eating and drinking properly before putting them on shavings.

A few times I commented on this and was ignored so I avoid any feed store who sells chicks or water fowl it's too heart breaking for me to see. I wish TSC and other stores didn't sell them actually. If they aren't going to make sure they are cared for. A tiny lil life deserves better.

I used a dropper to put the saline in her eye last night, then put a little bit of antibiotic ointment on there. She blinked a little bit and just closed it again. Gave her straight nutri drench too. Did the same with saline and dropper for nutri drench this morning, she's still keeping her eye closed. I didn't use the antibiotic ointment this morning because it's so sticky. Am I supposed to put the ointment in her eye, or on the closed part? should it work right away? Her eye seems swollen and red, it could be an infection. She still drinks, picks at her food a little, and poops, but she's really small with no wing feathers like the others, and not as lively. She's not eating the chick baby cake that the others go crazy for either, she mostly just stands under the lamp. Is it possible she's just a preemie chick born early?

There's only 1 chick that keeps getting pasty butt, it comes off easily when I soak it and it doesn't look as bad as some the ones I've seen. The other 2 chicks didn't get it back after I soaked it 1 time. I'm going to try some ACV on it and see how that works, I think the ACV in their water is what cleared up the other 2.

It makes me cry too seeing them like that, I wish I could rescue all the chicks and close down the factories, there has to be a better way. It's so sad what they do to the roosters. On the bright side for my TSC, people go crazy for chickens in Georgia, all the chicks sell out in just a few days!

Your doing all you can for her. I think probably with the warmth in the brooder some of the antibiotic ointment probably got into the eye I think I'd just try using the saline again is the eye matted like it's draining pussy stuff? You could take a small clean cloth and use the saline by wiping around the eye gently and squeezing some over the eye then dry it off her feathers so she doesn't chill. Do the Nutri drench a couple more times today Probably not preemie just having a hard start. Although I guess it would be possible she was hatched early. She may have gotten pecked in the eye that can cause swelling and possible infection.

It doesn't look like it's draining. I was reading up on some threads about chicks not growing - there's chicks that are 7 weeks old and look only a week old! Is there something else I can feed her to help her grow?
