Duck with Bumblefoot (Warning Viewer Discretion Is Advised)

Did you know I have 2 of the sweetest cockatiels, and 5 bunny rabbits? We also have 3 outdoor cats that keep the rodents away, and a dog that barks at everything that moves - even a leaf.

Wow I did not. You have yourself a small farm. I only have (Added to the 6 chicks and 3 ducks) 2 lizards. and 1 fish.

Yeah, we do! I just need to start planting stuff. :p I seriously want to do that!

Ah, cool! We have lots of lizards too - in the yard. :p I hold them every day. They're usually green anoles, because they're easiest to catch. We also have the huge screaming frogs that are as big as your head. You should look it up on YouTube.

I got another huge duck egg today! I candled it and can see the double yokes. I know twin ducklings rarely survive, but do you think I should try it out?

Hey Destiny,
Do you ever find yourself on BYC for longer amounts of time rather then doing your homework?
I do... :lau   I purposely do like an hour of work but then spend like two hours "Taking a break on BYC" but then going and doing like another hour of work... and then back to BYC..

 When I first joined I spent more time on here because there was so much stuff to do on here. But I've found it's much more exciting to jump on a few times a day because there's so many new posts rather than waiting forever. I like to have my stuff done before fun, that way I can enjoy myself a little more without the thought in the back of my brain telling me I have stuff to do lol. Every once in a while, on a relatively boring day, I'll stay on here for larger amounts of time like today. :D

Whatcha up to? :)

Yeah I've gotten better about it. Now I hop on in the morning lunch and after school is done. haha

I've just been waiting to put the chicks in their coop, except it has been snowing for the past two days so now I have to wait for the snow to melt and the weather to warm up again. How about you?

Ah. :D

I'm good, and so's the flock. Thalia's covered in feathers and flutters all over the place like a butterfly, and Flapper enjoying nice, warm, summer days with his buddies. He still has a small limp, but that should heal up soon.

Finally going to build the big duck/chicken run in a few weeks. I've added a few features to the design too. I'm going to make a sandbox for the chickens which will be kept in the shady area to keep the chickens cool in the summer. The ducks will have a pool available all day to keep them cool, and there will be no mud puddles because it will be in an 8 x 8 attachment so most of the splashes won't go in the main area, and it will be filled with pine needles to keep it mud-free. It will have a valve with a hose attachment for easy drainage.I've been putting 2 cups of regular distilled white vinegar in the pool to keep the alegea from growing, it's like a weed in the summer. It's safe for them to drink, and makes the water last longer!

I went out to tuck the flock in bed for the night a week ago while it was dark and raining. On my way back to the house, I was trying to avoid the big puddle that was in front of the porch by stepping on a small piece of wood. It had 2 nails sticking out of it and they went through my shoe, and all the way into the same foot that already has a hole in it. So I had to limp on one foot with a piece of wood stuck to the other to get some help. It was really stuck in there, and blood went everywhere when it was pulled out. Good thing I already got a tetanus shot a few days ago and also taking antibiotics. That was painful.

It doesn't really hurt anymore though. I now wear boots out to the coop. :/

Wow! You've been really busy. It's good that they are getting better and that they are back to being happy ducks.

The plans for the run sounds awesome! You have some mighty spoiled ducks and chickens.

The plans for the pool sound great, I'm actually going to buy a bigger pool for my ducks do you think I should put a little white vinegar in their pool when I get it?

Yikes that doesn't sound pleasant. You are one tough cookie, and I hope your foot heals quickly and without any more problems.

They sure are!

Yeah, I would put 2 cups in with clean water and let the ducks mix it up. I use a net to get feathers and debree out before I let them swim again. It's fine to add more if it it needs it, it's just a refined version of apple cider vinegar, which I put in their drinking water for health benefits. It keeps them from getting sick and other problems (it can't be used in metal water dishes though because it draws out toxic metal). I use a tablespoon to 1 gallon. :)

Thank you. :hugs

Yeah, I got a net for cleaning the stuff out it sure does help! Also their pool is just gonna be the largest kiddie pool I can find at Walmart which is plastic. I give the chicks apple cider vinegar in their water but I haven't given it to the ducks. I guess I'll start doing that.

I have a pretty big kiddie pool too, I'll be getting a different one soon that doesn't have a slide. It's so funny to see them summersault down it. :lau They're so clumsy with everything. I'm giving the chicks and ducklings ACV too, they are very healthy because of it. I started giving it to them as soon as we got 'em. :D
