Hi all,
Picked up this little muscovy yesterday. She seemed very healthy as well as her hatchmates. When I got her she had some pink in her bill, I just thought her pattern. Well today I notched that it looks red, almost like a sunburn and now some sores have appeared. I do have her in a pen after free ranging with mom her first 5 weeks of life. So I'm thinking maybe she just injured it trying to figure a way out of the pen.

So my question is this something I need to worry about, maybe an illness? I have cleaned the bill and put neasporin on it.

Does it feel softer than it should? It does resemble sunburn, I don’t know if that’s possible. I do know we have seen some miraculous bill injuries heal very well, so I wouldn’t be too worried just yet. Watch it and see if it starts to look worse.

Great job caring for her so far! If it appears to be affecting the way she eats or drinks (pain-wise) you can use some neosporin with pain killer. Otherwise use the one without.
Just keep an eye on it and see if it gets worse

A little ACV in their drinking water 1 Tablespoon to a gallon of water helps with healing.

Cute lil face.

So ducky update and mystery solved.. She is doing better. Retreated the wound, looks like its drying out. As well as the bill is not as red. I now know what happed to her.

I went to bed early last night. My hubby had heard the duckling chirping. Went to check and she had her head trapped in a small hole (has since been fixed). And on a sweet note..... She kept on cheeping, pretty upset, so he sat next to her and read his book for 30 min. Now he tells me "no I was just reading my book next to her" I then ask "Where you reading out loud." he smiled and told me "I thought it might calm her down." Her really dose love the ducks.

That’s so sweet.
My hubby prefers my ducks to the chickens any day!
