We had a young hen trying to set on her eggs but they weren’t fertilized. So I gave her duck eggs. The first ones hatched about a month ago. The second batch hatched 2 days ago.

Here they are, the big guys inside temporarily because of the cold rainy weather.

Why don't you have them out with momma? She will take care of them. The 3 in the box newly hatched? They still need heat at this age. If they are gonna be inside they need a heat lamp. Are you planning on letting momma raise them? You should take them back out to her. Hens can raise ducklings. They are adorable thought! Are they some kind of Swedish? So cute! 😍

Mama Chicken was not very mama-like. Once the eggs were all hatched she left the nest. We have a lamp for them. And it was the same for the first 4 as well. We are hand raising them.

They are a mix. Not sure which though. Definitely Cayuga father, and either Rouen or Khaki Campbell mother.

Okay, that makes sense. They are super cute! I love baby ducks! I have a duckling contest going now actually!

I just hatched a baby duckling that had a harmed leg. After a couple hours they are fine and walking around great now. I do not know the gender yet, for it is only one day old. It’s name is Pebbles and has imprinted on me. I don’t know much any tips will help. Things I would like to know: What toys do they like? What happens if I give it medicated chick starter? What tubs for first swim do you recommend? How do I tell the sex? Can I only raise one or do I need multiple? How do I build a duck swing? When can i give them a kiddie pool? How do I get the poop of it’s bum? And lastly, what feed and waters do you recommend? Below they were in the incubator and then moved to the brooder after 12 hours. (I know they look dead in the second but they are very much alive)
