Duckling Diaries: the Life and Times of a Welshie Trio

I found these paint roller things at Wal-Mart for just a couple bucks. . they make great ramps. I did have to zip tie the sides so it can't come apart. But they fit in the rubber bowls I have too and keeps them from splashing out all the water if I need to be gone a while. But they like to sit on it and poop it up lol

The bowls don't quite fit perfectly in there 'cos the ground is uneven, but you get the drift. The ducks can't fit more than their head in there, so all they can do is snorkel... They can still get a bit out, but not on the same scale as before.

Ah huh. . that looks simple enough. I've been thinking about how to deal with freezing water in the winter. We used a bird bath heater last winter for duck and Jane. . but don't know that I can accommodate doing that for six more.
So you just use the rubber bowls and refill them a couple times a day when it's freezing? I bet the board on top keeps it from freezing as fast.

Yup. Board didn't seem to do anything, but then again, since you're in a mild climate it might make a difference for you, especially if you give them warm water.

At night, I don't even bother providing water, because all it does is freezes solid in a few hours and makes work for me the next morning. -40F temps will ice a bowl over wicked fast. Throw-boiling-water-in-the-air-and-see-it-come-down-frozen fast.

Don't you people know about hypothermia?
:lau i think they are vaccinated for it

Look at this guys automatic watering system. . I think this would be great for your chooks but not sure what the point is for ducks. Don't know about ya all but my ducks don't know the difference between swimming water and drinking water. . .
doesnt look very predator proof
I do however really like this idea. . I don't usually put my feed in water. . should I be? I just make sure they have water available to drink.
looks like it would make quite a muddy, moldy mess

Nah, dry is fine. It works best for me and my critters, the wet stuff gets muck in it...
agreed
