Great suggestion Kathy! Looks like that really perked her up!

Normally I wouldn't suggest bathing a sick bird, but she looked perky enough in her pictures, so I suggested bathing indoors in warm water. My belief is that the feathers are all matted with blood and dirt, and that might be part of the problem. The head wound and thigh wound really need to be free of stuff so we can all get a proper look at the wounds.

Hi there i am new on here. I have mandarin ducks and was wondering if anyone would know at what age is the best to pinion a duckling? How many days or as soon as they hatched?

@BantyChooks How does her wounds look since she bathed? Sure looked like she enjoyed her bath time. You might try giving her a mirror with safe edges to keep her company too. Being depressed I'm sure is part of not eating she has been through a terrible shock. Hopefully your able to get a good look at her wounds now and can see how they are healing. Your doing a good job caring for her.

Great work Banti!!

Glad she has perked up for you
:hugs

I'm so glad.... It's the first step towards eating... I've cared for several birds with much worse injuries (one hen had her side ripped off by a dog, she made it,) and that's what they were like day 6. She's more "on track" now.

The triple antibiotic had set like glue and refused to come off. :barnie

I am working on getting her thigh wound cleaned and uncovered.... Ducks are so fluffy that it's slow going....
