Duckling hatch along?

When our tiny Muscovy duckling hatched and mama duck attacked it we had to bring him inside and spent a good part of the day putting hardware cloth on the outside of a metal dog crate so the little one would have a place to sleep and not be able to get out and get into trouble. Well we got it all set up in our room up stairs and I was down in the kitchen getting supper when I say to my dh sounds like the duckling is on the floor. Sure enough that little thing just hatched that morning had climbed to the top of that hardware cloth and I guess jumped down to the floor. and was running to the stairs. I got him right at the top. He is now 8 yrs old and still my baby even though a big Muscovy drake. It's amazing what they can do.

He still loves cuddles and pets. He thinks my husband is another drake though and is constantly biting him when he goes into their part of the property. :rolleyes:

Sounds like Limpy: He is always checking what i am doing in the duck-house and if i venture too close to Katharina he charges at me. Not really a threat, he is a small Runner drake, but he is defending momma duck as best as he can.
