Duckling Niacin Deficiency?

I don't have a timer, she can get to her food and water by herself, and earlier she ate and drank and just rested in the same spot. I've been checking on her every half hour or so and I encourage her to eat and drink then. How often should she be eating? I assume quite regularly as she eats a decent amount when she does and her crop is full most of the time

Glad to hear she is doing well. I'd continue with swim time to get more exercise to her legs. I've never really paid attention to how often my ducklings eat. If she is able to get to the food and water, then I think she'll be okay.

Update: Hazel is getting used to the hobbles (not so much the shoes, I've taken those off for now) and has had a few good 'stands' today. I support her body in the correct standing position (when I do so, her little feet splay out properly, hence why I've taken the shoes off for now - she was really struggling with them), I hold her in position while she wobbles about and gets her balance then she's able to hold it for a second or two. Not huge progress, but it's only been one day and we're taking baby steps right now..... literally!

Thank you for the poultrypedia link - very informative. I understand that she's retraining her brain to be able to walk properly again so hopefully with the right nutrition and rehab therapy she'll be walking on her own again in no time!!

Good Evening All!

Just a brief update on Hazel - looks like the hobble's working! Her right leg (the one that wasn't so splayed at first) seems to be back into normal position and the left one (the original troublemaker) is working its way back slowly but surely. I take her hobble off for her to swim and she can stand up on her own (

) but the left foot slides out a little, it's still the weakest link.

Her swimming is much improved though - she's zipping around the sink like a little speedboat and even ducking and diving her head today, something she didn't do before because I think she wasn't that confident that she could keep herself afloat. She's still standing for a few seconds and even took a few steps on her own earlier this evening so we're definitely making progress. My husband and I were joking that she's just become lazy now and doesn't need to re-learn to walk because I've been moving her from her 'bed' to her food and water and back again - she's trained me!!

Hello, how is Hazel doing now? I have a duckling that hatched day ago, and it would not walk, it lays on the stomach and moving its feet fast but can't walk.
