How old is she? Maybe less than 2 weeks I’d drop the temp to 85. I don’t know why she is acting like she is unless she needs more room in her brooder. Does she have a mirror so she can see herself? She’s a wild duckling which could have something to do with her activity she has traits that a domestic mallard won’t have. Maybe @Isaac 0 can help. I love to see her gaining weight and she looks healthy. Poop looks good to me!

Our guess is that she’s around 6 days to a week old. We suspect that she had hatched the day that we got her. She’s got a little mirror, a gardening glove and a sock full of polyester, but she doesn’t seem to take much interest other than to use them to hop higher up. Her brooder is a very sturdy 60 gallon box with a solid lid. We have our heat lamp suspended above it by a chain that can be adjusted really easily. This is the only brooder we’ve got, so I am a little worried if she’s claustrophobic... But she seems to have calmed down very nicely as of right now, she’s doing well just sitting by her mirror.

As for weight and poops, I’ll clean her brooder out again later tonight, take some pictures, and weigh her again. I’m excited to see how much weight she’s gained since last night!

She’s so tiny I doubt it’s space but they are flock animals and she’s imprinted on you so I’d say just wants to be with her flock. 6 days wow. Okay I’ve never kept any duckling over 85 that’s their first week after that it’s you drop the temp by 5* each week there after. Maybe you should keep it around 90 till first of next week.

Okay, we’ll figure something out to keep her feeling calm. I’ll see if I can’t find a stuffed animal that isn’t too fluffy to throw in the wash to give her...

And thanks, I’ll definitely keep the temperature around 90, then.

make sure there are no hanging strings or anything lose that she can pull off the stuffed animal or towels that is in her brooder.

Thank you, I will! I’ll be sure to check the stuffed animal too and make sure that there’s nothing she can pull off or eat. Thanks for caring about our duckie! 💕

Don't ever give a hyperthermic duckling cold water. She has obviously bonded with you, I'd try the stuffed animal idea, maybe a mirror, and in the past, I have played nature/bird sounds in their pen.

Thanks so much. I’ll absolutely give her a stuffed animal tonight, and play some sounds for her the next time she gets upset. She seems to be doing well right now- so when I go to weigh her in a bit, I’ll try it.

@Miss Lydia
@Isaac 0

Hey again! Here’s her stats for tonight! She weighs 31.1 grams as of right now!! 🎉

Here’s some poops, as well. One picture came out a little blurry, but I thought showing you the shape would be important as well.

Thanks again, you two! I’ll keep you posted!
