We had a preemie duckling hatch that we had to help because it was malpositioned. It's still attached to the egg by a tiny string about the size of a thread with blood in it and it can't roll itself over because of it. Should I leave it or should I cut it?

It's better to be safe than sorry, so I would not cut it. Wait a little while and see if it will fall off, sort of like an umbilical cord. Maybe this little guy just wasn't quite ready to come out of it's shell yet.
