Duckling stuck, cut it or no?

That yellow is dried up, so if it was yolk, it’s no good now. The thing attaching it to the shell is rather thick and appears to be bloody. It almost looks to me like it’s trying to pull the umbilical area back out.
I'm not telling you what to do, but I'd cut it from the shell. Is the duck trying to get up/kick free from the shell? I'd just be worried about it pulling the string attached to his navel. I had a chick kick so hard one time it pulled and bleed to death.

It actually came off when I tried to get a better pic. So I guess it wasn’t as attached as I thought. It looks like this now.

Glad it’s gotten itself loose! I’d let it fluff up as much as possible and the neosporin sounds like a good idea to me... I found the less I was involved before the fluffing the better, but that didn’t stop me from hovering and fretting over everything.

Hey, same here!
Nothing scares a new baby like a human face smashed on the incubator glass lol
I admit, I do this. Getting better though!!

Yes! I may not do this again! Way too much stress!

Take a break, get more advice from the knowledgeable people here. My first hatch had me swearing off ever doing it again too. I made mistakes, lost chicks, accidentally “drowned” a third of my eggs right at the end. And had to cull three chicks the first week due to severely slipped tendons. I am getting ready for my next hatch, better informed and prepared. With more thermometers, and the support of the great peeople here.
