Saturday morning while out doing chores I hear a peep! peep! peep! I am thinking "Am I nuts?" and then I see a flash of yellow fluff!! DUCKLINGS! But then I realize that my broody mama hen has only been sitting for about 3 weeks (I only have muscovy hens that are old enough to have babies...) So it wasn't her but I went and checked on her anyway. Nope not her. I called my husband freaking out by this time because I have no idea where these ducklings came from. I have caught two and can't find anymore. I have heard of eggs incubating in straw and hatching without mamas but have never had that happen. I put the two in a tub, and am trying to figure out what to do. I finish doing chores and finally got a count of hens... I have an extra one. Interesting. Well not really an extra one though. A few weeks ago (about 5 weeks ago) our neighbors dogs got into our chickens and killed some, we THOUGHT they got a duck too. Well low and behold the timing was just that...the timing. lol So now we have a mama and 2 ducklings...
