Duckling with swollen neck

So their original injury was caused about a week ago, several feathers missing down their neck and onto their back, with some wounds to the flesh. We brought them inside, kept them safe, and their wounds have healed nicely, but this appeared a few days ago. The injury didn’t seem to cause them trouble at any point. It was most likely caused by a fight against a protective mother or scraping themselves on something in our yard.

Yes, we should be able to try making an incision.

Also in response to an earlier question: We could take them to a vet if needed, but the only ones near us are very expensive so if it’s something we can treat, we’d rather not go to the vet.

I would think it would have to be some kind of infection then. But I'm just guessing.
Poor little thing. Hopefully someone else can give you some advice on what to do.

True, they do have air sacs, but that is not the problem with this duckling.

I know little to nothing about wounds of this sort. However I'd have to agree on everyones opinion about it being infected. Even if you do cut it open and get it cleaned out or drained, the duckling would most likely still NEED antibiotics. Anyways, just sit tight and let the professional duck people guide you!
No professionals here. Just people with experience..:frow
