I have a baby mallard which has hatched probably 2-3 days ago. The mother rejected it to do its condition. One eye lid is completely closed, but I can sort of open it with my finger very gently. The other side is almost closed but you can see the eye very little. Is this just a deformation? I've never seen this before. It's otherwise a healthy looking and acting duckling. All advice welcome and appreciated.

Does look like a developmental problem with the eyelids. I would get to a vet if at all possible. Sometimes veterinary schools or even human medical schools are willing to help with special cases because they can learn from them.

Thanks @amiga. I work at a veterinary hospital as an assistant and where we are they don't know much about ducks unfortunately. I had a duck with seizures and they had no idea what to tell me. This is why I am on here.

Thanks @diamondduck. He sure is. How long did it take to open up? Did you do anything special?
