Ducks and geese

"No. Rather than true teeth, geese are in possession of hard, spiky cartilage known as tomium. It looks and functions the same way as a row of teeth, but it's a growth made from the beak itself. One distinguishing feature of tomium is that it doesn't have any enamel. If you look closely at pictures of goose teeth, you can tell that they lack enamel. They're all cartilage."

That's very cool. Thank you very much.

Does anybody know what a duck does? Like not a single egg so far. Do they tend to lay just on the ground any old where? Or do they kinda bury them like the geese do? I was bummed I went out to mark the eggs and she was sitting so out I go again this morning and the goose eggs are sitting in poop and kinda wet looking on one side- so my question is are they ruined? I’m guessing the bloom is gone on that side- I moved them over a little where it’s a little drier so we will see.

Any suggestions why my ducks aren’t laying? I have 5 females but no eggs. I did see 2 mating- a welsh female and a Cayuga male so I don’t know about that inter species and all but I haven’t seen an egg. The breeder said they were 9-12 months old. How much grain should they get to insure they are getting enough to lay? They are eating stuff off the ground also.
Thanks so much!!

9-12 months old should be laying almost every day in your climate. I wish I could have geese but we are too close to the neighbors.

Can you put all your males together? In one pen?
I have mallards and Cayuga s and a welsh, soon to
Have a Pekin drake also. Otherwise the welsh and mallard really bully the females. The Cayuga doesn’t bother them. I have a male and female Toulouse-the male goose is the boss of everybody but doesn’t stop the bullying.
Thanks so much!

Im wondering also that the chicks I got were only Cayuga and mallard. I got no welsh harlequins! Even tho he mounted everything he saw! So I had welsh, mallard andcayuga males and females mating all over the place ! Even tho I had a male and female welsh in the mix I got no chicks. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Maybe he was shooting blanks? Is that possible?

Hello🤗
I did get eggs!! Thank you for asking🤩 I have five females and I would get generally two maybe three a day. I recentlyswitched to an all flock feed which is supposed to also be for ducks but I’m not sure now as I am getting no eggs all of a sudden this last week right at the change it’s a Purina brand but I don’t know if it’s the heat?! Or the feed? But heat index can be 102 right now in florida🤬
And I wondered the same thing myself about if he’s shooting blanks or not.....I have 3 female welsh harlequins and not a single egg looks like one. Even tho one of the welsh was sitting on a clutch and that’s where I got half of the 12 eggs that hatched so I don’t know. I’m not sure I want to do the incubator thing anymore so I’m bummed I didn’t get any welsh😥 I really only got into it for theeggs I had no intention of raising babies- it was a cool experience but quite labor intensive. So I think I will keep them separated from here on out 🤪
