Ducks in the Winter

I wish I could find the blog article from Metzger Farms that discussed different bedding options for ducks (shavings, horse pellets, etc.). But I do remember that the prefer straw, but chop the straw. (They have a fancy piece of equipment to do this.) I do agree with others that it depends on your particular set up, where you live, and what works best for you.

I really like buying the chopped straw but it is pricey.

I would go through too much chopped straw...tomorrow we’re picking up 20 bales of straw with hopes it last much of the winter, but I’m not holding my breath. I seem to go through a bale every 5-6 days.

I have 2 coops the same dimensions. My Khaki Campbells use wood chips from Tractor supply they've been fine for 7 years. My wild ducks use straw from Tractor supply it costs almost 3 times as much as chips but it does the coop 3 times as opposed to once with chips so it's a wash. I think my little teal can settle into the straw a little better.
