He goes Brown over Silver hens, then those hens back to a Silver rooster, then brother and sister from that mating in order to "hold your strain."
Has anyone here done this?

I don't quite get what he's saying. Not sure what they're starting with or what they're wanting to end with.
But he mentions brown cock over silver hens will give poor looking gold cockerels. That's wrong it will give you poor looking silver cockerels. They'll be silver split to gold so will be silver with the yellow hackles and saddles.
He also makes it look like he's saying it will produce silver pullets. It wont. It will produce gold (brown) pullets.
He then mentions putting a silver cock over the silver pullets. If you have a silver cock to do that and silver hens to start with what's he using a brown for? IDK doesn't make much sense to me.

That's why I asked...using that protocol, would it not make better sense to get those pullets from the first mating of the brown over silver hens(they would be theoretically 50/50 ) and mate them with a good colored Gold rooster? Or if thats not available maybe a Light brown rooster with lighter hackles..like a Danish?

Well.
Here are my two Silver Leghorn roos that I'm planning to use in my Gold Duckwing project.
I'll post the hens in a bit.
Only have two brown hens as my order was botched up.So I'm growing out the hens that I have and I am in the process of setting up a grow out area for when my next order of hens arriving in the Spring.
As I stated before, I will be using Silver roo over Brown hen.

Ha!
I took the time to take those pictures of my roosters in the middle of installing a chain link fence... it gets dark quick. The roosters are easy to take pictures of the hens...not so much. They are very active, especially with the young bucks orbiting around them. I will try if there's daylight by the time I get home today.
