Oh how exciting!! The 11th is my birthday, I would love to have chicks for my birthday but we will be putting eggs under our broody hen instead that day. They will hatch on my hubby's birthday instead. I'll just enjoy your gifts instead!!

Well, I started lock down a little early. I am so nervous that my stomach actually feel sick

I will be working all day tomorrow for 9 hours so I didn't want to do it in the morning and have something bad happen while I was gone. So this way I can get it adjusted tonight and make sure everything is good to go!

I have 18 (Australorps, SLW`s and Ameraucanas) due to hatch on the 12th...I am also feeling nervous/excited about going into lockdown (this Friday afternoon). Today when I added water the temp. shot up to 102 but regulated quickly back to 100. Kind of worried me because I have had a very consistent 100 degrees for the entire time and am wondering what will happen when I increase the water on Friday for lockdown...sigh...how did I ever raise two children??? I know I will now obsessively check the thermometer on lockdown and then have my nose stuck to the bator window as soon as the first pip shows (and my other worry...will they pip). Does this get less stressful with more experience????

Mrs. Feathers, is this your first hatch? I was *insane* when I did my first hatch. This is my second hatch and it's amazing how much calmer I am. You'll be much better next time around (and I promise...there will be a next time! LOL)


I'm going into lockdown tonight, still debating on whether I should just leave them in the turner (unplugged) or just lay them on the mesh again. During my last hatch the eggs were bounced around so badly by "Crash" when she hatched that I about had a heart attack. I learned a lot of lessons during my first hatch...mainly, keep the stinkin' thing closed!!!!

WhoaNellie, hatching in the turner isn't really a great idea, they can get their legs/feet caught. Hatching on the mesh is fine. But I like to use an egg carton, with the sides cut down and the bottom of each cup cut out.
