Due around 3/26? **non-intervention success story pg 9**

Gabrielle, I'm so excited for you!! Please post a picture!

Good luck Huny!

I have a guy who's been pipped since noon with no progress, still peeping -- everyone else hatched by mid-afternoon except one egg with no pip at all. It's only been 21 full days tonight, so although I've been reading up on helping, I'm going to sit on my hands. Hoping for progress overnight!

My little guy who had made no progress for at least 15 hours & 12 hrs after the last chick hatched (I checked again at 3 am & nothing, altho still chirping fairly loudly) woke me up at 5:15 with that really loud continuous chirping that accompanies hatching!!!

I came out & saw the sweet little guy, looking great. Interesting -- altho the membrane over the pip hole had looked white & dry like parchment, the membrane lining the shell was still pink & moist. Also, it looks like this guy never got into the air cell at all - it appears to be intact in the wide end of the cell. Maybe that's what slowed him down -- I'm amazed he was able to hatch that way, tho!

I'm grateful to the folks who had posted words of caution about intervening on the sticky -- I was about to go for it last night & then read a few posts that changed my mind.

The one thing I did do was stick a straw through the plug hole & put a few little drops of water on the dry membrane -- not sure whether that made a difference. With as moist as the internal membranes looked, seems like it was probably ok on its own.

Its soooooo hard not to open that incubator isnt it?! I've left my DH home with my eggs that are hatching and I've threatened him within an inch of his life not to open that incubator (he's to call me before he does anything) He worries about the chicks that are still in the eggs and the chicks that are hatched walking on them:rolleyes: I think I've called him from work like twenty times to remind him! Congrats on the hatch!

I wish I could post a picture but I dont have a digital camra, I use my phone but besides my avatar pic I havent had any luck loading pictures. they all require photo bucket or some such . and I dont have that. I guess I could make him my avatar photo maybe lol if I remmber how to resize it. the therm in with the baby says about 90 I dont know what to do to get it highre with out putting the light actuallly in the bucket with the baby. any ideas. Your chick is very cute!! He looks fluffy, healthy & alert.

Can you just put him in a box? The light can be pretty low -- mine is about 7" above the floor of the box (100 W bulb), just because that's where the hand hold from the box is. They don't stay directly under it, more around the sides & there's room in the box for them to get away from the heat if they want.

You can have chick feed & water available to him now -- do you know about putting marbles in the water so he can't drown in it?

Good luck & keep us posted.

Yup he has marbles in his waterer and he has starter feed in his feed dish and a teddy bear with semi long shaggy coat thats actually fairly close to him in color , its cute to see him get under there and peak out from under an arm or leg, so far he hasnt shown any interst in the water at all and only a passing peck of interest at the food but he is only about 21 hours old or so .
I have 14 more eggs in the hatcher now that are due on monday night do you think he would be ok with those babies once they are up and moveing around and dry and fluffy. He will be about 4 or 5 days older I think by then.

I'm sure he would get along fine with the younger chicks. It's ok if he's not too interested in food or drink for another day. He's still got plenty in his tummy.
