Dumb question..

I use the Parakeet grit from Wal Mart & have not had any problems with it. I also did not start giving mine treats till they were almost 2.5 weeks old. At first they got some yogurt mixed with their crumbles & then scrambled eggs. Once I knew they handled that fine then they got some very small earth worms (the longer ones I actually cut cut smaller for them). Once I started this I gave them the parakeet grit in a large tupperware container & let them have at it for a few hours. I only let them have it for a few hours a day now because if I leave it in there all the time they kick it all out & poop in it.

I have seen this over many years and nothing ever came of it, We always thought they had a crop full and are readjusting it. make sure they have grits offered and water...sometimes its yawning, sometimes they seem to be trying to adjust food into crop and little gits ..Like I said nothing ever came of it..occasionally hens will do it too , then you wont see it again for a long time..

There is a gape worm that treated with wazine or if you prefer organic methods hot peppers, doesnt hurt birds , they are not bothered by capsaisin and it kills worms..just dont feed way too much of it..we give chili flakes for a couple days in feed that usually does it... chickens pick up worms from eating earthwoms and just around...all animals are prone to parasites.. we have never had gapeworm but like I said, all chickens especially those who free roam are prone
