Dumb question....

I'd LOVE to get some more chickens but first, my husband won't let me. Second, we don't have the room. And lastly, we're in the suburbs, in a subdivision and actually are NOT even supposed to have chickens according to the Homeowners Association. SO..so much for THAT idea..!! But thank you SO much.. and I do agree with you 100%!!

A curtain is NOT going to help anything?? Olivia will just go in the nest all the same!! I don't see how a curtain would stop or deter her in any way or I'd put one. She just insists on being right there with Daisy.. she's TOTALLY dependent on her??!! But thank you for the suggestion.

Most times if the hen can't see the other hen in the nest box, they won't go in after them.
No need to get testy about it, I was just trying to help you.

Darlene, when you use lots of capital letters, exclamation points, and phrases like "Excuse ME??" over the Internet, it can come off quite "testy" looking. The response above may have been written with good intentions, but it sure doesn't look like it.

It might have been your punctuation that seemed testy. But I wouldn't worry about your pullets. They do some weird things but usually work it out among themselves. They will both be laying before long. Then Olivia won't have time to worry about Daisy. Sounds like a soap opera. haha Good luck.

Thank you for the lesson in grammar. I'm a very expressive person and it comes thru in my writing. NO harm or "testiness" was implied. I'm sorry it came off like that. I've already apologized to the person that was offended. I see NO reason in the world to continue with this.. esp if you're not the person who was offended. I will have to learn to curb my "expressivness" in my writing as I DO see how it can be easily misinterpreted!! The thing with writing is that what you write can often be taken completely different than as you intended it to unfortunately. I sincerely appreciate all the advice from everyone on this site and have learned SO much as I knew NOTHING at all about raising chickens when I got my two girls. It's AMAZING how much there is to learn and know about chickens!! Anyways.. again my apologies for my writing and hope this resolves any issues it may have created. Now THAT'S some good sound advice and I can't agree with you more!! Thank you so much.. I appreciate it!! And it's really hilarious cause you're SO right.. it is exactly like a mini soup opera that these gals have going on between them..!! Heeheeeehee You should see how they sleep!! Oh my goodness.. I wanna get a picture SO bad but everytime I try to sneak up on them, they hear me and they move. Haha But Daisy sleeps on the roost (which is barely above the bedding cause my husband goofed there!) but anyway she's squatting down on that roost and Olivia slides in UNDER her with her head at Daisy's year-end and then HER rear-end in Daisy's face!! OMG it's insane!! They sleep like this EVERY night!! Well thank you again for your thoughts!! Best of luck with your chickens!!

You're welcome. You know, chickens are really smart in ways. You can have a roost full and some will be turned one way and some the other. Mine haven't told me but I believe it is to watch for predators. They are pretty much helpless at night because they can't see well at all but I guess they try to be prepared for whatever might come. The one getting under the other, I have heard of that. I guess she doesn't want to grow up. lol
