Dumb question....

Wait, who started this thread? I'm new to the site and don't have any chickens, but I started reading this yesterday and I'm totally lost. On a side note, I have curtains that I plan to hang in front on my nest boxes basically because I like the way they look. If they cause a problem, I'll take them down... Simple enough.

lithiachick Hi!!
I started this thread originally because my one chicken keeps bugging my other chicken when she's trying to lay her egg.. lol But I'm confused now?? What about curtains were you asking? You say you're putting curtains in your nest boxes? Sounds GREAT to me! I don't see any problem with it. MY thing in my particular case was that I didn't feel a curtain would deter my chicken from going in and bothering my other one.. but not that curtains were any kind of problem. I think they look really super cute!! I say go for it by all means! Post some pictures for us when you've made them OK??!! Best of luck to you and I hope this cleared up any confusion. Take care!!
Ooooh btw.. are you by any chance from Lithia, Florida?? Just wondering cause of your user name? I'm in Riverview, Florida just next to Lithia. Are we neighbors?

I was reading your posts about wanting your chickens to be more friendly... Feed them treats from your hands! My pullets I just moved outside were pretty flighty even though I handled them since they were a day old. It seems that they become more trusting and pet like if you feed them some kind of snack from your hands. Feed them when you are not trying to catch them also, as they seem to become more trusting knowing they aren't "paying" for getting their treat by being picked up or whatever. Mine love bread and American cheese!

Awwww thank you SO much for the advice!! I have been making it a point to do just that as much as possible as another person told me the same thing. I really appreciate you taking the time out to write to me!!!! This afternoon I was sitting in the lanai and had them running loose in there to play a little and my husband snapped some pictures of my Daisy laying on my lap!! They ARE coming around..they're OK once you're holding them.. though they still kinda run a little when I go to pick them up. But really I guess I shouldn't complain because they're truly doing pretty good. I WILL follow your advice though for sure!! Here is a pic of Daisy this afternoon! Olivia was standing on the arm of the OTHER chair! Lol SHE'S the jumper/climber.. and ALWAYS playing!! Heeheeeheeee

Yep, right next door! My nest boxes are at floor level and open(3 boxes.) I painted in that area a dark brown but it is still gets allot of light. I think the curtains are a great idea for separation and privacy and worth a try. I have some cute laundry room curtains I never used because they were 2 short! I will post a picture of before and after. Maybe they will keep the girls OUT until ready to lay as well! Now off to Walmart to get a tension rod.

REALLY?? How cool!! First person I meet that's from right here!! Are you in Fishhawk?? I'm in Boyette Springs.. right at Boyette and Fishhawk at the Walgreens entrance. Hey that sounds like an AWESOME idea!! I can't wait to see pictures of it!! Your babies are gonna LOVE it I'm sure!! Best of luck with it!!

Ooooh NO WAY!!!! THAT is just TOO darn CUTE!!!! Your girls are gonna LOVE it!!!! I'd love to do the same, but our two nest boxes don't show from the outside.. see with ours, the girls enter them from their roost, which is enclosed. Wow, GREAT job and I'm jealous now!! Haha My step-daughter lives in FishHawk!! Happy Chickening to you!!

Thanks! Same to you. It's a learning process, right? Those may be down the first day they get in there! Now to plan and build my "poop board" for under the roosts. an idea I found on here too! Love this site!
