Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

@junebuggena I just love the Pics of your cockrels and your breeding program. Everyone who is raising their own broods should have a clearly thought out breeding program.

Not chicken related, but... Foolish things that the gullible think about us Maineiacs: Maine is part of Canada. Maine is a terrritory, and not actually a state. Most people in Maine still use the outhouse. Along with that story... It's very important to carry a metal pot and a big spoon when going out to the outhouse in the evening to scare the bears away. One resourceful co worker had some of the younger co workers convinced that they actually held family get togethers in the out house. Folks living north of Portland do not have electricity. And then there's the Annual Black Fly Festival which is put on by the Black Fly Breeder's Club. Their goal is to breed a bigger and more hearty black fly. Every year, a local paper published the location and date of the festival, and there are always some locals who get in an uproar about it!!!

So, not about chickens, but I find this colossally stupid. Folks are protesting outside a farm for a guy not to butcher his cow.

As for chickens, my MIL did ask me when I showed her pictures of my bielefelder chicks "Why aren't they yellow?" in a tone of voice that implied she was worried that they were sick.

Thankfully, she isn't a city-idiot, just city-ignorant, so she understood why when I told her that like dogs, chickens come in different breeds and colors.

Wow okay so I just watched the video and read the story and all I can say is Wow! I mean if the animal has had a good life and is given a good and kind death what business is it of anyone's. Ugh people like that tick me off. Do they really think that a factory raised animal is a better choice? How can they judge him?

Ugh sorry that's just such total bologna! To protest at his house and that he's getting threats and warnings is just ridiculous.

Well glad to know your mom was able to understand and accept that. Lol I've had that a few times before too... Why are they all different colors? What's wrong with that ones thing on its head?(rose comb) lol

It's like a cult, I tell ya. It's like they are completely and totally deaf to all rational thought, which would indicate some brain washing which is going on in every public school, on the TV and in movies all across this world.

What makes these people feel like they have the right to dictate what this man does on his property and with his own animals, let alone what he feeds his family???

If it were me I'd butcher the cow in the front yard, taking my time and doing it right, letting the whole family participate, invite some friends and have a good old fashioned processing party. Actually...I've already done that with one of my own cows.....though we didn't quite make it to the front yard we were still in full view of the passing public.

Oh. My. Word. Just read the article about the people protesting the butchering of the cow. This woman that "got involved with the cow" had been allowed on that property - probably to pick and enjoy the fresh produce grown there, and this is how she pays him back?? I agree with Bee. Set up the processing station right out front where those who want to see what farm life is really all about can do so! This should, of course, happen while the protesters are there. Also, I think I'd close my doors to these people ever coming onto my place to "pick strawberries and have birthday parties" ever again. Sadly, that was probably another source of income for the family, though. Ugh! I've definitely got my dander up over this! I wish I knew when and where - it would be worth it to set up a counter-protest (and help the poor guy butcher - we process our own deer, it wouldn't be that much different.)

Just read the article to DH. He said, "Where, pray tell, does the beef in the grocery store come from?" We both determined that it just magically grows right there on the shelf in those little styrofoam trays....

I think this might be something a public flogging might cure...each and every time something like this happens in America, these individuals need to be placed in stocks in the town square and publicly flogged, left overnight to contemplate things that are truly worthy of spending one's time on and then let go to see if they can possibly live a life with more meaning and intelligent thought.

Bet it would work.

I'm afraid it would take awhile for some individuals to catch on...
