Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

Oh well, I'll feed them back to the chickens or even the garbage disposal before I keep giving them away.

Before you do that, look into freezing them!

We bake angel food cake from scratch, and my mom has separated and frozen the whites for that. She says it works great. She made one in January and you'd think it was made from fresh-laid eggs. I have used non-separated ones in baking and it worked out very well.

The quote wont work cause its accidentally inside the other but hmmm, that's interesting, maybe my Lab was the odd one lol he'd eat anything. We rotate brands but atm we feed Zignature which I think is great for dogs with allergies cause it basically contains like no allergens aha but it's a little expensive depending on flavor and definitely not as many kcals as some foods, though it does have a decent amount. Although it seems like you've already found a food that works well for your dog :) I'm trying Nutrisource next, it's made at the same facility but they make Zignature for a different company whereas Nutrisource is one of their own brands. But gator does well on anything

The "peeling factor" is because egg shells are porous. The last process in laying an egg is when the hen deposits a coating of bloom, a clear "sealer", on them that helps to keep the air out. Over time, the round end of the egg develops an air bubble, and air eventually gets between the shell and the membrane. This is why the older eggs are easier to peel: the air causes the thin membrane that encases the white and yolk to pull away from the shell.

You've just reminded me that I have a dozen in the fridge that's probably ready to boil, now. Thanks.

I did my 11th grade science fair project on that, even tested the boiling with vinegar and rising with cold water methods that are supposed to make fresh eggs peel easier (easier but not perfectly). I try to explain it to people in simple terms because well, most of those terms you used go over their heads. When I tell people boiling with vinegar helps a little, all they can think is that their eggs will taste like vinegar. :p

Never heard of freezing them before! Thats awesome, thanks for sharing that.

I can understand the people who want cheap things or veggies or whatever since we used to too (though now with the chickens i like fresh lol) but i cant understand people who only buy premade and never cook. We like always do. Okay admittedly im lazy and often eat cereal or sandwiches or somewhat easy stuff and we do buy like the boxed potato stuff like augratin or whatever but still, i prefer cooking, just we don't know how to make them so for sides and some stuff well get boxed and i think that's fine but the actual meal part is cooked or whatever even if it's with cheap food. I REALLY don't get the people who eat like microwave meals or minute ready stuff every day or how they aren't sick yet

They typically don't know how to cook and don't want to learn. Might break a nail. My princess friend is one of those. She wanted to make mashed potatoes like mine, then complained that they were "watery". "You *did* drain them after cooking didn't you?". "Why no. You didn't tell me to." This is a wife and mother in her 50's. She also "nukes" English muffins and cooks filet mignon (the only steak she likes) in the toaster oven.

Chickendreams24, are free range eggs really better for cholesterol and weight control?

Forgive my ignorance, but I had no idea!

Why didn't I do this ten years ago?!

Incidentally, I got my first half dozen eggs, yesterday. I took photos (sad, I know!), put them in a box and offered them to my eldest sister. Her response was, 'Sorry, I can only eat brown eggs. I just can't stomach white or blue.'

(UK shop eggs are all brown, btw.)

I was crushed....

Wow that's just... wow. My dad makes good ones, we boil the potatoes till they're soft enough but not too soft, put them in the mixer, add milk and sour cream and idk what or if anything else, and mix it till they're mashed.

Steakin a toaster oven though? What the? Husband doesn't grill????

We toast english muffins....

What the.

How has she survived 50 years? LOL

I don't remember the exact data but from what I've read truly free range eggs are much much healthier idk about losing weight but they're lower in cholesterol and bad fats higher in omega 3s and 6s and other good fats.
Among a few other things I believe. Basically the healthier and happier and better fed the hen the better quality the eggs are.

You can see it by comparing store bought eggs with fresh eggs particularly from your own hens or from pastured birds. Yes some of the differences come from the age of the eggs such as the consistency of the whites and how high up the yolk stands but also the color of the yolk, which is directly associated with the amount of omega 3s and 6s. Birds on grass have darker yolks.

That's unfortunate. Would they take them if they were free? I've been thinking of starting to sell ours but we give them to my uncle and my brother.

Yes we have offered to give them some to try. I just got some story about how they had two dozen store bought eggs at home and they didn't want my eggs to go bad in the fridge. They were that days eggs and would have been good in the fridge for 8 weeks or so easily.

My DH2B and I joke and call her one of The Croods(from the movie- favorite of some nephews) "It's new!!!!" So she's suspicious BC the egg might open up and hatch a dinosaur that will eat her. Lol. Okay not really.

There are lots of people around here that sell eggs and we have had some trouble starting up our egg business because of it. In the meantime when we get too many eggs or if they get older they are hard-boiled and fed back to the flock. They love them and it gives them extra protein and the eggs don't go to waste. Sure I would rather sell the eggs to try and offset the feed costs but I'm not going to freak out about it. I know we will make it eventually. For the time being it's worth it knowing our girls are happy and healthy and that we are going to be getting the best eggs and meat we can as we are also raising all of our spare cockerals up for the freezer.
