Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

One of my coworkers, who knows I have chickens. Very excitedly informed me the other day that feed manufacturers just came out with a "new feed that makes hens lay eggs without a rooster!". It's called... Layer feed!
I very gently explained that hens will lay, rooster or no, and that layer feed simply has special nutrients that laying hens need. He believed me but was completely amazed

Was talking with one of my clients today about chickens and he was telling me about how when he was younger he helped a friend to debeak a bunch of chicks at their big farm in Iowa. I was telling him about why they do that so that they don't peck on each other, especially the ones towards the bottom of the pecking order. He lifts his head up and says, so that's where that expression comes from. Mind you the man is 64 years old.

Has anybody else been getting a lot of their non-chicken friends on facebook posting about stuff for chicken sweaters and chicken leashes lately?? Been seeing that a lot lately on mine.

Everyone is tagging me. Sweaters, no sweaters. leashes.

Sometimes I get several in one day.

I told friends I'd be selling eggs as soon as my ducks started laying. So far three people have asked how I will know they aren't eating baby ducklings as I have drakes. I explained that you can eat eggs even if they are fertilized as long as they are collected promptly and stored appropriately. No one believes me.

I had a little old lady tell me that when she was a girl, she used to "catch the eggs" when the hens laid them, and she'd get to watch those egg shells "harden up" as she held them. No way could I convince her that wasn't possible. When faced with such "unarguable facts", the better part of valor is just to smile, and respond, "Wow!" and move on to an other subject!

I like the green border on the tail, too. No only do they have the wrong chicken on the pretty bowls (probably didn't know that Ancona is a specific breed, or that chickens even come in specific breeds - a chicken, is a chicken, is a chicken), but just below the description of the bowls, they show a "Chanteclair" tureen. Sorry, but the proud rooster from the Canterbury Tales is spelled, "Chantecleer". Nobody fact checks anymore. What's worse is that, when their error is pointed out to them, they don't even have the decency to be embarrassed; they typically respond with a shrug of the shoulders and a flippant "whatever".
