The whole thing about neighborhood dogs killing chickens is so very disturbing. Even more so, the mentality about it being "mean" to keep them locked up. I've had more than one conversation with the local ACO about dogs on my property being predators, and dealt with accordingly, of course depending on the situation and, if possible with prior warning. Last dog issue: 2 dogs harassing chickens, had to be driven off by hubby and myself. They returned several weeks later, and actually wandered into my house. I shut the door, and kept the muddy, wet dogs in my house until ACO came and picked them up. I want to free range my chickens, but unfortunately, dogs are my most frequent predator.
