its a color... that i have heard of there are Wyandotte bantams, OEG bantams, and Sumatra's that are the dun color... but it has to be one of the rarest colors in the USA...

Not really. It is in polish, and silkies as well, oh, and serama, although they are also in choc.

I have them in my d'anvers, but as a dun quail, not solid dun (YET) Here's some pics of them. Bred this way, they are like "blued " versions of colors, the black feathers are replaced by dark chocolate. They also breed like blued birds, you get 50% dun, 25% black and 25% khaki (their version of sport)
I do have to agree, Sonora, you are the first person I have ever heard of saying there are true Chocolates in the States. I have always been told they are solely in Europe, be nice to know if there are some pures here!

Anyway, here's my dun quail d'anvers

You might have the most success in finding solid color Dun with some Wyandotte bantam breeders. There are some around though. I raised them for about 5 years, gorgeous birds. The color is very striking, they have the sheen of black but with the dark brown color. I too have heard the Splash version called Lilac not Khaki.
I have seen the Fawn Duckwing and the Fawn Red OEG and they are very beautiful also.
