It will most likely work for the parasites. I never used it before but a majority of my friends do. Maybe it will work. Have you ever thought/heard of the book by Lisa Steele?
Fresh Eggs Daily? It has a bunch of things/ideas for a sand bath.

Right now I'm using all-purpose sand with a little wood ash (too hot to have a fire) and some feathers and poop the chickens threw in. We'll definitely be saving our fireplace ashes this winter!

My chickens like dry, powdered clay soil and wood ash pits. My cat also likes their dust bath spots and adds an occasional turd.

My coop has a dirt floor it is 17 square ft diameter my birds love having the dry on rainy days or cooler ones they are inside making their dust bathes

Meant to add, my previous flock chose an area of the pasture comprised of loosened soil heavy on dry horse manure.... and the neighbors horseshoe pit

Thanks for all the advice, guys! I dug up some dirt and now I need a 'tired' emoji, but BYC doesn't have one. That tire was HUGE. After I read @penny1960 's comment, I wished I had put it inside the coop to keep it dry. It's under an overhang, though.

Guess what? I put some DE on top, then tried to introduce them to it. They did not like that stuff. They were like "eww! It's white powdery stuff! It might be clean! eww!" So I had to put another layer of dirt on top of that. Chickens.

@HenOnAJuneBug that sounds like something my cat would do...
